SkinPen

Microneedling that rebuilds from within.

Dr. Troy Austin, MD, board-certified plastic surgeon in Augusta, GA

Medically supervised by Dr. Troy Austin, MD, board-certified plastic surgeon ◆ Updated August 2026

SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, a treatment that uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which prompts your body to produce new collagen and elastin. As the skin repairs, texture smooths, acne scars soften, pores look refined, and fine lines ease. It is traditional microneedling, meaning it works with needles alone, not radiofrequency, and it can be paired with PRP for an added boost. At 7 Seas Medical Spa, part of a board-certified plastic surgery practice, your plan is built around your skin and goals.

Microneedling belongs in trained hands.

Your SkinPen at 7 Seas Medical Spa is performed by Morgan Havard, LE, a licensed aesthetician, and the program is supervised by Dr. Troy Austin, who is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin, so needle depth, technique, and a sterile medical setting matter for both safety and results. Being part of a plastic surgery practice means honest guidance about what SkinPen can and cannot do, and when a treatment such as Morpheus8 or a resurfacing option would suit your goals better.

Good microneedling is about matching the depth and the plan to your skin. The goal is smoother, clearer skin that still looks like you. 7 Seas Medical Spa

What it treats

What SkinPen treats.

SkinPen microneedling improves the quality of the skin, and it is a go-to for acne scars, texture, and early fine lines on the face.

Acne scars & texture

One of the most requested uses. By prompting collagen where scars and rough texture sit, SkinPen can soften the look of acne scarring and smooth an uneven surface over a series of treatments.

Fine lines & skin quality

As new collagen builds, fine lines ease and skin looks fresher, firmer, and more even, with a healthy glow many people notice after a session.

Enlarged pores & tone

SkinPen can refine the look of enlarged pores and help even out overall tone for a smoother, more polished complexion.

SkinPen with PRP

SkinPen can be paired with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) drawn from your own blood, which some people add to support the skin as it heals. Your provider will tell you whether it is worth adding for your goals.

Is it right for you?

Am I a candidate?

Most healthy adults who want smoother texture, softer acne scars, or fresher skin without surgery are good candidates for SkinPen, and because it uses needles rather than heat or light, it can be used on a wide range of skin tones. Your provider will still review your skin and history carefully, since active breakouts, certain skin conditions, a tendency to keloid scarring, or recent isotretinoin use may mean waiting or choosing another option. SkinPen is generally not recommended during pregnancy or with an active skin infection in the area. The best way to know is a consultation, where Morgan Havard, LE assesses your skin and goals and recommends a plan.

How it works

How SkinPen microneedling works.

SkinPen glides over the skin with a sterile tip of very fine needles, creating controlled micro-channels that switch on your skin’s natural repair and collagen response.

Before

Your provider cleanses the skin and applies a topical numbing cream so you stay comfortable. Needle depth is chosen for the area and your concern, since a scar on the cheek may call for a different depth than fine lines.

During

The SkinPen device is passed over the treatment area, creating tiny channels in the skin. If you are adding PRP, it is applied during or after the passes. A full face usually takes about 30 minutes after numbing.

After

Expect redness and a warm, tight feeling like a mild sunburn, which most people find settles within one to two days. Follow simple aftercare: gentle skincare, no makeup for the first day, and diligent sunscreen while your skin rebuilds.

Traditional microneedling. Needles only, no radiofrequency. For RF, see Morpheus8.

SkinPen vs. Morpheus8

SkinPen or Morpheus8?

Both are microneedling, but SkinPen uses needles alone to refine the skin, while Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency heat to also tighten.

Results

When will I see SkinPen results?

Many people notice a fresh glow within days of a session, with texture, tone, and scarring continuing to improve over the following weeks and months as new collagen forms.

Building and maintaining

  • Skin often looks refreshed and more even within the first week after each session.
  • Acne scars, texture, and fine lines improve gradually over several weeks to months as collagen matures, which is why a series works best.
  • Results are not permanent, since skin keeps aging, so many people maintain with a session or two a year.

Results vary from person to person based on your skin, the concern treated, and how many sessions you complete. Sun protection and a consistent skincare routine help your results last, which matters with plenty of Georgia sun.

Gradual and natural. Collagen builds over weeks and months. Before and after photos coming soon.

Good to know

SkinPen questions.

What is SkinPen microneedling?

SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. It uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which prompts your body to build new collagen and elastin as it heals. The result is smoother texture, softer acne scars, refined pores, and fresher skin over a series of treatments.

Yes. SkinPen was the first microneedling device to receive FDA clearance, which means it met the FDA’s requirements for safety in this category. FDA clearance is not the same as FDA approval, and having a trained provider treat you in a medical setting is still what keeps it safe and effective.

SkinPen is a specific, FDA-cleared microneedling device rather than a generic tool, designed with a sterile single-use tip and consistent, controlled needle depth. The technique is traditional microneedling, using needles alone. If you want radiofrequency heat added for skin tightening, that is Morpheus8, a different treatment we also offer.

SkinPen is one of the most popular treatments for the look of acne scars and uneven texture. By building collagen in and around scarred areas over a series of sessions, it can soften how scars look. Results vary with the type and depth of scarring, which your provider will assess honestly at your consultation.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is concentrated from a small sample of your own blood and can be applied with your SkinPen treatment. Some people add it to support the skin as it heals. Your provider will tell you whether it is worth adding for your goals.

Many people do a series of about three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, though the right number depends on your skin and goals, and concerns like deeper acne scarring may take more. Your provider recommends a plan at your consultation.

A topical numbing cream is applied first, so most people are comfortable and describe a light prickling. Afterward the skin is usually red and warm, like a mild sunburn, for about one to two days. Many people return to normal activities the next day and wear makeup again after the first day, per your provider’s aftercare.

Many people notice a fresh glow within days, with texture, tone, and scarring improving gradually over the following weeks and months as new collagen forms. Because it builds over time, a series usually gives the best result.

The cost depends on the treatment area, how many sessions your plan includes, and whether you add PRP, so a single small-area session costs less than a full-face series with PRP. Your provider gives you an exact quote at your consultation, and package options and financing are available.

Because SkinPen uses needles rather than heat or light, it can be used across a wide range of skin tones with a lower risk of pigment change than some energy-based devices. Your provider still reviews your skin type and history and adjusts the treatment, or recommends an alternative, at your consultation.

During a treatment series, sessions are usually spaced about four to six weeks apart. Once you reach your goal, many people maintain their results with a session or two per year, which your provider will help you plan.

Keep the skin clean and hydrated, skip makeup for the first day, avoid heavy sweating and sun for a day or two, and use diligent sun protection while your skin rebuilds. Your provider gives you a simple routine and tells you exactly when to resume makeup and active skincare.

Divya is truly the best! I have never been to a medical spa where someone took so much time to explain every single detail, what she was doing, why she was doing it, and what to expect. Her knowledge and professionalism immediately made me feel comfortable and confident. She never rushed me, answered all of my questions, and made the entire experience feel so personal. Divya, you’ve gained a customer for life, please don’t ever leave🥹🩵🙏🏻 In a smaller area like Augusta, it’s incredibly hard to find someone who is truly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. I can honestly say I finally found my person😘My results look so natural, exactly what I wanted, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Divya! I can’t recommend you enough❤️😘

Divya is truly the best!! She's honest, knowledgeable, and really listens. I always feel comfortable trusting her recommendations - so much so, I drive from Athens to Augusta just to have my treatments done by her. I've never had anything but a great experience with Divya.

DIVYA IS THE QUEEN OF INJECTIONS! Went to 7 seas about a month ago and got Botox in my neck and parts of my face. Divya was so knowledgeable and gave me advice on where to inject and how much. She knew exactly what I needed without going overboard. Now that it’s fully set in, I could not be happier specifically with my neck as well as my lip flip!
