Liposuction

Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that permanently removes stubborn fat from targeted areas, improving body contours and tightening problem areas for a more sculpted look.

Liposuction targets fat deposits that resist diet and exercise, enhancing tone and definition in areas such as:

  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Chest
  • Back

Procedure

Under local or general anesthesia, a small incision is made to remove fat with a fine tube (cannula). The process typically takes 2–3 hours.

Recovery

Patients may experience mild soreness and will wear a compression garment for a few weeks. Most resume normal activities quickly.

FAQS

How long after lipo can you see results?

In some cases, you may notice results from lipo immediately after your procedure. However, these results will be distorted because of swelling, bruises and other side effects from treatment. For this reason, you may not notice your final results until the body fully recovers from surgery. In most cases, patients can begin to appreciate their results within 2 to 3 months of receiving treatment.

How painful is liposuction recovery?

The pain during liposuction recovery will vary depending on the area treated and the extent of surgery performed. Typically, the pain is most severe during the first few days of treatment and begins to improve quickly. You can expect soreness, swelling, and varying discomfort during this time. Fortunately, this pain can be easily managed with pain medication, which we will prescribe following your treatment. To further reduce any pain, patients must adhere to their recovery guidelines. By moving as much as possible, wearing any compression garments, and following our other instructions, the pain from liposuction becomes much more tolerable.

How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

The amount of weight that is lost with liposuction will depend on the patient and the extent of treatment performed. However, there is a limit to the procedure, as liposuction is not intended to be a weight loss treatment. First and foremost, liposuction is performed to remove fat and enhance the contours of the body. Patients often lose weight as a result, with most patients experiencing between 5 and 10 pounds of weight loss. If you are hoping to lose more weight with liposuction, we recommend that you pursue natural weight loss strategies before deciding to receive liposuction.

Does fat come back after lipo?

Liposuction permanently removes fat from the body, which means that it will not return. However, liposuction cannot prevent weight gain and the reaccumulation of fat. If patients fail to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits following their liposuction procedure, fat may increase in the body, including in the area where liposuction was initially performed.

Is it easier to lose weight after liposuction?

Although liposuction has no direct connection to weight loss, many patients find it easier to lose weight after liposuction. This is because liposuction can boost patients toward their cosmetic goals, motivating them to maintain their results or even improve them. Furthermore, with less fat on the body after liposuction, patients may feel more confident or more comfortable exercising, which can lead to successful weight loss and more rapid gains in the gym.
