What is the goal of Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

Dermal fillers and other injectable treatments are non-surgical solutions to repair and improve skin conditions such as creases, folds, lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, sunken facial contours, and thin, flat lips. Dermal fillers come in an array of formulas, each designed to treat specific areas of the face or body with results that may last as long as two years. You may opt to get one or a combination of injectable treatments, or you may choose to combine dermal fillers with other procedures, such as liposuction or cosmetic surgery, to achieve a more sculpted contour.

Who should consider Injectable Dermal Fillers?

Most healthy adults in good overall health may be suitable candidates for an injectable treatment, but they especially benefit those individuals who wish to treat the following conditions:

    • Acne scars
    • Crow’s feet or laugh lines at the corners of the eyes
    • Deep nasolabial folds extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
    • Lines, wrinkles, and creases
  • Sagging skin in the mid-face region and sunken cheeks
  • Thin, flat lips that have lost their shape and volume
  • Vertical “smoker’s lines” around the lip line

What advantages do Dermal Fillers offer?

Dermal fillers have gained widespread popularity because they provide a safe, quick, and effective improvement with less expense and downtime than plastic surgery. Dermal injections provide immediate visible results and the added advantage that, with many treatments, you’ll continue to see ongoing improvement over time. Treatments take less than an hour and require no downtime. Some procedures may require follow-up treatments, while some produce gradual improvements for months, but typically, you will see a noticeable improvement after a single treatment session.

What types of Dermal Fillers do you offer?

At Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, we provide several types of dermal fillers to treat different areas and conditions. Dr. Austin and Dr. Medina and our team of dedicated skin specialists will assist you in determining the most appropriate treatment or combination of treatments in order to address your conditions and fulfill your aesthetic goals. We provide the following dermal injections:

Are Dermal Filler injections painful?

Most patients do not describe the treatment as painful. Typically, we numb the treatment area using a topical anesthetic to prevent any patient discomfort during treatment. The injections are administered using a very fine-gauge needle. Some patients describe a stinging sensation during the procedure, and some may experience soreness and tightness in the skin following the treatment, but these symptoms are mild and will subside naturally. Dermal injections require no recovery period, and you may resume normal activities immediately after treatment

How do Dermal Fillers work?

Different formulas treat different conditions, but most dermal fillers work by stimulating skin cells to either boost their natural production of collagen or to increase hydration through the use of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body. To treat fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin, the treatment is delivered to the outermost skin layers, while deeper folds and creases require treating deeper skin layers.

Should I prepare in advance for Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

The main precaution we recommend in preparation for any skin care procedure is that you avoid direct exposure to sunlight in the days prior to your treatment, as many treatments work best when the skin has been protected from the sun. Also, if you take medications such as blood thinners, aspirin or NSAIDs, you may need to postpone taking them in preparation for dermal injections to reduce bleeding and bruising. Any type of skin condition or irritation that may be present on the skin such as cold sores, cysts, pimples, rashes, hives, or an infection, will require that you postpone the treatment until the condition clears up.

Is there any downtime after Dermal Fillers?

There is no downtime after dermal filler treatments, and most patients can resume their usual activities immediately upon leaving our office.
