Before & After

What Is Male Pattern Baldness?

Male pattern baldness, or male androgenic alopecia, is a hereditary condition that produces natural hair loss in men, usually increasing as they age. Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in men and usually begins with the loss of hair along the front of the hairline, causing a receding hairline that eventually recedes further and further, or it may begin with a bald spot at the top of the head that expands over time with aging.

Can Hair Loss in Men be caused by other conditions?

While male androgenic alopecia is the most common reason for hair loss in men, some men do experience other types of hair loss that may result from an untreated health problem, certain medications, or other issues. In most cases, hair loss that is not caused by hereditary conditions may be temporary and reversible once the underlying cause of hair loss is treated.

Can Male Pattern Baldness be treated?

Yes! Male pattern hair loss can now be successfully treated with NeoGraft™ follicular unit extraction (FUE) treatment, the most advanced procedure for hair transplant available today. Typically, the procedure is performed by removing a strip of hair-bearing skin from a discreet area of the scalp that can easily be camouflaged. The strip is then split into hundreds of smaller grafts of “follicular units.” Some of these tiny grafts may contain up to four or five hairs, but most contain only one or two hairs. These individual, minute, follicular units are then inserted into tiny incisions in the target areas where hair growth has ceased. This precise and laborious technique allows Dr. Austin and Dr. Medina to precisely craft each individual hair transplant procedure, reproducing natural hair growth patterns in each patient.

Male pattern hair loss can also be treated using your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in a technique called PRP therapy.  PRP injections for hair restoration is an advanced medical treatment that harnesses the growth factors found within your blood to stimulate the production of new hair.

The first step of PRP therapy is to draw blood. Your blood is then treated in a centrifuge so that only the enriched cells (PRP) remain. Our nurse practitioner will then inject the PRP into the target areas of the scalp. PRP therapy for hair restoration can be a solo treatment or it can be done in addition to other hair restoration treatments. We recommend you consult with Dr. Austin and Dr. Medina to determine a procedure plan that works best for you.

Non-Invasive PRP for Scalp FAQ

What is Non-Invasive PRP for Scalp?

Non-invasive PRP for scalp is a treatment targeted at  hair restoration and hair growth. PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Platelets are rich in a special protein called “growth factors.” By removing other components from your blood and leaving only the platelets, the result is blood full of growth factors. When this blood is injected into your scalp with a small needle, those growth factors can have an amazing effect—growing brand new hair follicles!

Is Non-Invasive PRP for Scalp painful?

Cell therapies like PRP are one of the most cutting-edge innovations in hair loss therapy. PRP has been one of the main sources of innovation in hair restoration for hair loss that is unresponsive to topical treatments and medication. The great thing about PRP is that it doesn’t require a hair restoration surgery or a hair transplant. Instead, you will feel only mild discomfort during the process of having your blood drawn and injected into your scalp, which will be numbed before the injection.

How do I know if Non-Invasive PRP for Scalp is right for me?

Non-invasive PRP is great for men and women who are not candidates for hair transplant surgery or medication or would prefer a non-surgical option for hair restoration. Non-invasive PRP is safe for almost anyone except those with underlying disorders that reduce the effectiveness of PRP treatments, or those on blood thinners.

What can I expect during the Non-Inasive PRP for Scalp procedure?

In order to make PRP for your procedure, one of our highly-trained medical professionals will draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a special centrifuge. This advanced medical technology separates the platelets from other materials in your blood. Once the platelets have been infused into the plasma, we will numb the injection site and then use a small needle to inject it into your scalp.

What results can I expect from Non-Invasive PRP for Scalp?

PRP can be very effective depending on the underlying cause of hair loss. Studies show that PRP increases both the number of hairs and the density of hair in the treated areas. Most patients see results beginning three months after their treatment. Some of the most successful results are for those with more recent hair loss or thinning.
