Neck Lift in Augusta, GA

A neck lift eliminates unsightly wrinkles and sagging skin in the neck, as well as jowls in the jaw line, tightening the throat and chin. At Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, our skilled surgeons include board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Troy Austin and Dr. Manuel Medina, perform neck lift surgery on male and female residents of Augusta, Evans, Columbia County, and nearby areas in Georgia. We are also happy to provide our services to residents of Aiken and the neighboring communities in South Carolina.

What does a Neck Lift accomplish?

A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, tightens the muscles of the throat and chin area, extracts fatty bulges along the jaw line, removes jowls and a double chin, and eliminates sagging skin and the unattractive “turkey neck” effect that is often caused by vertical banding in the skin of the throat region.

How can a Neck Lift take years off my appearance?

Often, the neck is the area that exhibits the most advanced signs of aging, even when the facial appearance remains youthful. If you have sagging bulges in your lower face and are noticing the formation of jowls and/or a double chin, or thin, wrinkled and sagging skin in the throat area causing the unmistakable “turkey wattle” effect, a neck lift can treat all of these conditions, restoring a toned, firm jawline and throat region, and a more sculpted and defined facial profile, imparting a more youthful look to your entire face.

What happens during a Neck Lift procedure?

The neck lift is a safe and simple surgical procedure that is less invasive and complicated than a facelift but produces dramatic results. The neck lift is performed under general anesthesia through small incisions that are hidden in the skin’s natural folds and creases, typically below the chin. Dr. Austin or Dr. Medina gently pulls and tightens the neck muscles and extracts pockets of fatty tissue, then trims away excess skin, producing a tight, smooth throat contour.

What can I expect after a Neck Lift?

As with any surgical procedure involving anesthesia, we recommend you plan ahead for your recovery period. Ask someone to drive you home after the procedure and provide routine home care for several days while you rest and recover fully. Immediately after the surgery, compressive bandages will be wrapped around your neck and will remain in place for several days to protect sensitive tissue and optimize healing, reducing swelling and discomfort. You will have to keep your head elevated and sleep in an upright position, limiting neck movement as much as possible for a period of about two weeks. After two to three weeks, it is safe to slowly and gradually resume your normal physical activity, and after about four weeks, the full results of your neck lift will be fully visible, and you may participate in regular exercise.

Neck Lift FAQs

How painful is a neck lift?

The neck lift procedure is performed with general or local anesthesia, so you can expect a safe and comfortable surgery. Following the procedure, you can expect some bruising, swelling and pain, particularly during the first week of your recovery. We will provide you with pain medication and recovery instructions to help you manage and reduce this pain as much as possible.

How long does a neck lift last?

The results from your neck lift procedure can be expected to last from 10 to 15 years or longer. However, the exact duration of your neck lift results will depend on your personal circumstances, including your lifestyle habits and how you age.

At what age should you get a neck lift?

There is no ideal age for a neck lift. Instead, we recommend that patients consider a neck lift based on the signs of aging they are experiencing. If you have developed sagging skin, loose muscles or wrinkles in the neck, a neck lift may be an appropriate solution. Specifically, patients who are unable to fully address these concerns with other treatments may be good candidates for the neck lift procedure.

Can I get a neck lift without a facelift?

Yes! A neck lift can be performed without a facelift. However, many patients feel that they can achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation by combining the two treatments, and therefore have both procedures performed in unison. If you are not concerned with signs of aging in the face, the neck lift can be an effective solution for rejuvenating the neck on its own.

Where are incisions for a neck lift?

The incisions for a neck lift begin behind the ear, then extend downward along the hairline to the lower scalp. An additional incision may be placed under the chin. With these incisions, any scarring is well-hidden, ensuring that the neck maintains a natural appearance.
