Before & After

How does Liposuction work?

Liposuction uses a vacuum extraction process to remove stubborn fat cells from problem areas all over the face and body.

HOW CAN LIPOSUCTION IMPROVE MY APPEARANCE?

Liposuction removes fat from stubborn areas and streamlines you facial and body contours, achieving more tone and definition in muscle and skin tissue. Liposuction may be used to treat almost any area of the body, but the most popular areas to treat are the following:

  • Abdomen
  • Ankles
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Chest
  • Face
  • Flanks
  • Knees
  • Legs
  • Neck
  • Thighs

WILL LIPOSUCTION HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment, although it will yield a slimmer and more toned body contour. Liposuction is ideal for healthy active patients who are close to their ideal weight. It is not recommended for patients who have more than 30 pounds to lose; instead, we recommend liposuction after weight loss is completed for those who want to treat the last stubborn fatty deposits that still linger in specific target areas, defying diet and exercise.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES LIPOSUCTION OFFER OVER PLASTIC SURGERY?

Liposuction cannot produce the same results as plastic surgery, but it also does not require incisions or a long recovery period. Liposuction is ideal after dramatic weight loss, surgery, pregnancy, or aging to remove fatty deposits that still cling to certain areas, producing a trim and toned contour with permanent results. Liposuction achieves smoothness, definition, and contour in almost any area of the body and may be combined with plastic surgery to yield more dramatic results.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LIPOSUCTION TREATMENT?

Depending on the extent of your treatment, we will apply either local or general anesthesia to prevent any discomfort during the procedure. A very fine tube is inserted and used to extract excess fat from target areas through a small incision. You may choose to treat one or more areas or to combine liposuction with other procedures such as cosmetic surgery or dermal fillers. A liposuction treatment usually takes only two to three hours to complete, depending on the extent of your treatment.

WHAT ABOUT RECOVERY AFTER LIPOSUCTION?

Recovery after liposuction has become more comfortable and the time required for it reduced significantly as the technology used in liposuction treatments becomes more advanced. While you may experience some soreness after the procedure, and this will vary depending on the areas treated, most patients recover very quickly. We will provide medication to help you manage any discomfort, as well as information to help you optimize the recovery period. In most cases, you will have to wear a compressive garment for a few weeks to support delicate tissue and help the body adjust to its new shape.

Liposuction FAQs

How long after lipo can you see results?

In some cases, you may notice results from lipo immediately after your procedure. However, these results will be distorted because of swelling, bruises and other side effects from treatment. For this reason, you may not notice your final results until the body fully recovers from surgery. In most cases, patients can begin to appreciate their results within 2 to 3 months of receiving treatment.

How painful is liposuction recovery?

The pain during liposuction recovery will vary depending on the area treated and the extent of surgery performed. Typically, the pain is most severe during the first few days of treatment, and begins to improve quickly. You can expect soreness, swelling and varying discomfort during this time. Fortunately, this pain can be easily managed with pain medication, which we will prescribe following your treatment. To further reduce any pain, it’s important that patients adhere to their recovery guidelines. By moving as much as possible, wearing any compression garments and following our other instructions, the pain from liposuction becomes much more tolerable.

How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

The amount of weight that is lost with liposuction will depend on the patient and the extent of treatment performed. However, there is a limit to the procedure, as liposuction is not intended to be a weight loss treatment. First and foremost, liposuction is performed to remove fat and enhance the contours of the body. Patients often lose weight as a result, with most patients experiencing between 5 and 10 pounds of weight loss. If you are hoping to lose more weight with liposuction, we may recommend that you pursue natural weight loss strategies before deciding to receive liposuction.

Does fat come back after lipo?

Liposuction permanently removes fat from the body, which means that it will not return. However, liposuction cannot prevent weight gain and the reaccumulation of fat. If patients fail to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits following their liposuction procedure, it’s possible that fat will increase in the body, including in the area where liposuction was initially performed.

Is it easier to lose weight after liposuction?

Although liposuction has no direct connection to weight loss, many patients find it easier to lose weight after liposuction. This is because liposuction can boost patients towards their cosmetic goals, motivating them to maintain their results or even improve them. Furthermore, with less fat on the body after liposuction, patients may feel more confident or more comfortable exercising, which can lead to successful weight loss and more rapid gains in the gym.
